The appeal of this second edition lies in its expanded scope - differences in age of surviving partners, same-sex partners, child custody and family issues. It also lies in its sympathetic, non-judgemental tone and economic presentation. The reader is fed with small bites of information, easily taken in, to be used as needed, in conversational language, even soon after a death. It is not only a guide but becomes a companion and a nurturing experience. It shepherds someone through the process of grieving with acceptance of different paces and even beyond to form a new identity.
