In the book Lost in Hope, Ally's horse Mystery is her best friend. He is the one she goes to talk to when times are difficult, and to find peace with. He is her companion and she would not be able to face life's challenges without him. Ally also has a best friend named Carmen, who recently came back to the town of Stowe, Vermont. The girls are very close and even though life throws many obstacles at them during this story, they become closer and more understanding with one another. Although, in one quick sweep of a hurricane, all seems to change with Mystery, Carmen, and Ally's family. This is a story about friendship, maturity, and the ability to cope with feelings during difficult situations.
