After a month of Ghanaian food, Osu nightlife, and slave castles, Lakeisha returns to Atlanta, Georgia to confront the reality of not knowing much about her ancestry as a daughter of the diaspora. To find the answers she takes a genealogy test.
Instead of receiving genealogy results, Lakeisha descends through time as her ancestor, Emefa. Struggling to grasp reality, she shifts back and forth between the year 2020 in Atlanta to 17th-century Northern Ghana. The revelations of the past reveal that Lakeisha's struggles with identity, injustice, and grief are closely linked to her present.
