Set primarily in Silicon Valley during the 80s, LOST is the fictional story of an independent young woman named Tara Scout, whose unconventional life choices impact her family relationships and eventually launch her from Ohio's 1970 Kent State shootings to a backpacking trip throughout Europe. Moving from activism to open relationships, dancing to drugs, Tara finally embarks on a mainstream career in Silicon Valley and unknowingly becomes wrapped up in an investment company of crooks conducting a Ponzi-like scheme. After losing her way and eventually hitting bottom, a disillusioned but tenacious Tara begins to rebuild her life, repair relationships, rekindle the fire in her belly, and grow roots in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hatlen manages to weave throughout and yet confront head-on the issues that many, especially women, struggle with: empowerment and sexuality, motherhood and career, need and independence, the personal and the political.
