The story of Alexander Baranov, who rose from humble beginnings to be virtual dictator in Russian-held Alaska. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a surprisingly fast-paced, exciting book on the Russian period in Alaska. The book is set mostly from 1790-1823, the time in which Baranov was in charge of the Russian trading/settlements in Alaska, with an information-packed forward that is a good introduction to the story and characters. I am amazed with what occured at this time in Alaska. This book was a really good read, and at times I had trouble putting it down. It has really piqued my interest to read more about this time period to see if The information and conclusions in "Lord of Alaska" are shared by other authors.
