The boys show uncanny resourcefulness as the sweaty after-midnight escalates from teenage boredom to adventure, menace and violence.A memoir of sorts about the THC-soaked late 1970s, "Looking for Dean" would join a list of books about trouble in the American suburbs. It suggests how drug culture and distant adults sometimes generated children able to navigate what from the outside looks like a pastoral existence but truly holds all the dangers of any dark human community.
