I wasn't "looking" for any particular book. Just browsing, when I happened on this real charmer. What piqued my interest was the mention of "lessons" and 'ordinary moments". As I leafed through I was tickled to see I am not as far out and different as I thought I was. There really were other people out there pretty much going through the same thoughts and reactions to the same everyday occurences, the only difference was this author was able to articulate with humor, sensitivity, joy, sadness, and ultimate love that I only wish I had the talent to do. From the first chapter I was hooked. I found it hard to put down, as I was anxious to see what new occassion in this author's life would trigger a giggle or fond memory of something I also cherished. Each chapter was a new adventure! The beginning chapter "BirdMEN of Alcatraz" had me laughing till I cried (havent we ALL had the bird of paradise fly overhead and drop a personal "calling card" at the most inopportune time?) I could feel the love and deep bond of affection the author obviously shared with his father, come through in his magical play on words. From one chapter to the next so enjoyable and real you felt pulled in to each situation as if you had experienced it with him and I would guess what a lot of people probably had! From beginning to end and all the stories in between (Well Worth The Read). The last chapter "Little Things" says it all. I have a feeling you will cry, laugh, ponder, and feel like you have been on a beautiful trip through one of life's greatest adventures. When you buy this book I predict you will be picking up this book over and over to re-read just for the sheer enjoyment of the special moments this author shares with us. P.S. I am a bit curious though about "those hairy little children"
