In March 2013, the South Bank Center revealed designs for a massive redevelopment to turn the iconic South Bank Undercroft skate park into retail units and build a replacement park down river. However, the Undercroft is a treasured space--it's considered the birthplace of British skateboarding. A haven for skateboarders, BMX riders, and graffiti artists for the past forty years, it is the oldest recognized and still-extant skateboarding space in the world.
