Lonely La: Echoes of Silence
Lonely LA: Echoes of Silence is a photographic meditation on Los Angeles during the earliest days of the COVID-19 lockdown, when one of the world's most populous cities fell unexpectedly quiet. Created as stay-at-home orders emptied streets, intersections, and civic spaces, these black-and-white images document a rare moment of collective stillness.
Rather than focusing on crisis or spectacle, Lonely LA turns its attention to absence. Familiar places-downtown corridors, cultural landmarks, and everyday urban environments-are rendered motionless, revealing the emotional weight carried by architecture when human presence recedes. The city's scale feels larger, its silence more pronounced, its identity momentarily suspended.
Interwoven with the photographs are brief poetic texts that reflect on isolation, uncertainty, and pause. Together, image and word invite the viewer to slow down and inhabit a city temporarily stripped of movement and sound.
Lonely LA: Echoes of Silence offers readers a contemplative visual record of an unprecedented moment in urban history and a reminder of how place, memory, and stillness intersect when a city-and its people-are forced to stop.
