I had read a few of the books in this series, and I wanted to see how the early books compared with the later ones (those after book #100). I found it in a used bookstore and I found this book to be a well written story. The Lone Star Legend of Jessica Starbuck and Japanese samurai Ki encounter the crime cartel intent on seizing the Starbuck family business empire. The San Francisco setting is well described, sometimes a bustling big city and sometimes a huge nest of criminals at different turns in the story. I don't know who wrote this book, but he or she came up with a suprisingly good tale of adventure, with a likable pair of heroes matched against some ferocious villains. I came away from this book with the feeling that the author had put considerable time and talent into the story. The other books in the Lone Star series left me feeling that they had been rushed to print to meet a deadline. Recommended.
