Maria and Rachel, the two eldest Hammond daughters take opposite attitudes regarding the family's hardships. One is embarrassed and deeply resentful, while the other is Pollyanna grown up. A family in turmoil ends up blessed by a summer at Lone Point. Although much of the story is standard Grace Livingston Hill--a once-wealthy family coming on hard times, a summer at the shore, a troublesome family member, and romantic interest--there is a very surprising and compelling story line twist here that involves the unlikely and very genuine spiritual awakening of one of the main characters. Very good depiction of the struggle that leads to a soul's realization of its need of God. That story line alone is worth reading over and over.
