The story revolves around Lisa Huntress, the most famous bounty hunter in an intergalactic civilization in the distant future, who makes an excellent living by taking contracts both from planetary and even the federal government, as well as wealthy private citizens. Her preferences are for contracts taken out against human pirates, with no particular preference for live prisoners over corpses. This is due to her horrific childhood experiences at the hands of pirates, which are both the impetus for her decision to become a bounty hunter, as well, the source of deep and lasting psychological trauma. To wit, she is very beautiful... but thinks herself to be hideous and unlovable.
