Nowadays, to the three classical perspectives in argumentation theory: logic, dialectics and rhetoric, a new point of view has been added, the socio-institutional one. A still unripe fruit of this incorporation is Civil Logic, whose object is the study of common argumentation aimed at resolving practical questions of public interest and public domain. This book is both an introduction and an invitation to its exploration and cultivation. It consists of three essays that progressively lay the foundations for working in this nascent area of the field of argumentation. The first one raises the question of what a complete citizen should know about logic, beyond the formal logic of his or her school education: he or she should know the theory of argumentation and, in particular, the theory and practice of deliberation. The second deals with and defines some key concepts in this regard, such as practical argumentation; propositions, purposes and proposals; discursive agents and agencies. The third focuses on public deliberation, given its quality as a paradigm of the common argumentative practice in the public sphere.
