It has been raining heavily for the last four days. George is a single father of one who lives in a city slum home with their family of two sisters, a domestic worker and tenants in the yard where they are the landlords. His sister Helen is an aid worker and political activist. He is jobless, not very provident and drinks all the time. His sisters are always berating him for this. One morning one of his sisters, Lydia, insults him violently for punishing her daughter. He leaves home in bitter disappointment and goes, yet again, to look for a job. He ends the day drunk, as usual, but is just on time to save Lydia's daughter from drowning in the city river that runs behind their home. He is hurt in the process, and as a vehicle belonging to the local Catholic church arrives to take him to hospital brother and sisters find a fleeting chance to glimpse at the intrinsic value of humans, and hold their fraternal bonds to a searing scrutiny.
