Preparing to write a sermon

As a seminarian, I've read quite a few books on how to approach the task of sermon development. This one is practical but still spiritual. It covers all the bases of traditional exegesis, but in a way that is understandable even for the novice preacher. The author offers especially helpful advice for developing multiple sermons from the same exegetical effort. That is worth a lot to anyone who must preach to the same audience on a regular basis and still needs deep but fresh sermons. I recommend it highly.

I wish I would have read it sooner.

I wish that all of my seminary text books were this relevant and easy to use. Dr. McMickle gives practical advice on how to make preaching come alive for you and your congregation. This text is easily understood, practical and invigorating. It should be required reading for anyone studying homiletics.
