Amazing: inspirational & timeless

I bought this book from the local Christian bookshop having read the back and thought it looked to be an interesting read. I was not disappointed. Adolphe Monod was a minister in the French Reformed Church, at the age of 51 he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Determined to continue his work for the Lord he spent his last two years on this earth giving a sermon each sunday from his bed rather than the pulpit. This book takes the reader through each of these sermons, they can be read in chronological order or by theme. The sermons are excellent, they are written in a way that the message is kept simple, but very effective. He discusses a variety of themes including faith, seeking God in troubled times and personal sickness. An excellent book, it is just a shame that the name Adolphe Monod is not known more widely in the Christian world.

If this was fiction, we might not believe it!

Not only did Adolphe Monod face cancer with an encouraging faith, but he pastored other people in the midst of his own pain. His short talks are packed full of encouraging, practical insights into the basics of a Christian's life. I found them very readable, and I'm neither a theologian nor a French scholar. This book is a resource to keep on your shelf and dip into whenever you need bolstering!
