Gabriel Neuh user Scott was born in Berlin in 1911. Following research in Kemal Atat rk's Turkey, she was awarded a Ph.D. in Zoology, and left Nazi Germany in 1937. Arriving in Australia, she collected for museums, married, had two children, and lived twenty years in Mount Isa. There, she worked as hotel kitchen maid, library aide, and, eventually, regional librarian for northwest Queensland. Told without sentimentality, her autobiography reflects her analytical mind and extraordinary recall.
