For heavy times, Freely and Lightly is the perfect gift!

I have been a fan of Emily Lex's artwork for a long time. When I heard she had a book coming out, I wanted to check it out. On the surface, "Freely and Lightly" may seem like simply a pretty coffee table book since it is full of gorgeous little watercolors and inspirational quotes. However, once you hold the book in your hands you will not only be impressed with its artwork but also with the richness of the text itself. Lex, with tender vulnerability, shares her very personal yet highly relatable journey in which God exposed and helped her confront the areas where deep insecurity had taken root in her life. Even though Lex grew up Christian, she did not realize the shaky foundation for her own self-worth and that she was stuck looking for external validation. Lex speaks honestly and compassionately about the sometimes subtle and often seductive traps of comparison and control she found herself in and that can be quite challenging for many of us, especially in the age of social media. Gently, as with the voice of a loving friend, Lex's sharing of her personal story points us back to Jesus and reveals where true peace and authentic identity is found. This book is a perfect blend of deep, rich, vulnerable story, beautiful art and craftsmanship, and eternal wisdom. It is a perfect gift--for yourself and those you love. Because I have followed Emily Lex's artwork, I was excited to read her book as soon as possible. I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the publisher. However, this review is my own independent, honest opinion.
