Good overview of the history of Christian liturgy

I originally bought this book because of its mention of various works on early music notations, including Suzanne Haik-Vantoura's work on the Hebrew Masoretic Text's melodic accentuation. It turned out to be quite a treasure trove in many other ways. The authors know their business and their work is a good, digestible summary of liturgical history.
