Somebody tell Oprah!

I received this book as a gift. The "giver" knew that I liked Laurie Notaro and Jen Lancaster's books. She said, "I KNOW you'll like this one, too!" I LOVE this book. Kopoulos is hysterical. She writes not just with a self-deprecating humor, but with heart. You'll fall in love with her gay boyfriend and cheer for her throughout her dating horrors. And, you'll come to the conclusion, as I did, that her dog needs to star on Animal Planet. Sadie Mae (the dog) very nearly steals every scene. Someone should tell Oprah that there is a rising star in her very own Chicago backyard!

Laugh Out Loud Funny!!

It's like she has a sign on her back that says "kick me." Funny! Funny!! Funny!!! I am a huge fan of Laurie Notaro -- and I believe Suzanne Kopoulos could be her "little" sister. I laugh out loud at Laurie's books -- Little Miss Smarty Pants made me do the same thing.

Beautifully written memoir

I loved this book, it was a beautiful story about an amazing friendship. Great writing, hysterically funny, but also very heartwarming. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book should be savored

This book should be savored like a glass of fine wine. You won't want to rush through it. It's funny, touching and moving. As someone who "came of age" in the 1980s, I could empathize with her insecurities, bad dates and poor fashion choices. I loved this book. I laughed out loud several times. I was also moved by the relationship she has with her gay boyfriend. You'll want to reach out and give this character a hug - but she'd probably punch you. Extremely well written and thoroughly enjoyable. I can't wait to read her next one!

A Funny Coming-of-Age Tale

Little Miss Smarty-Pants follows the author from her awkward teenage years in Chicago through her relationship with Jack, her gay boyfriend. Along the way she encounters deadbeat boyfriends, drag queens, and oddball co-workers. Kopoulos' memoir bounces between the bizzare, the comical, and heartbreaking real life with deft precision. Anyone who has been lucky enough to have that one special friend will understand the value of this book and the courage it took to put inexplicable feelings into words.
