When two brothers become members of the Little League, the whole family becomes involved in baseball. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Baseball, small town America, and family. This novel is an exercise in wish-fulfillment And more power to it. It is an invocation of a myth. This book is about a tight knit small town family with two brothers playing in the little league. The book does not show what some would call "deep issues". It does not have tragedy or a philosophical message. What it does show is love and friendship and family loyalty. It also shows a picture of America's Game. The focus is on two brothers Coco and Rory and their athletic aspirations. It follows them through a single season shows how Coco evolves his pitching potential into reality. The sports scenes are fun. For one thing it shows the pitcher's point of view which is to my mind the most interesting part of the game. This is a cheerful book and a pleasant read.It is a light book and a short book but a healthy and pleasant one nontheless. To call it "nonserious" would be true but that can be falsely interpreted. "Light" books are a legitimate part of literature and compliment "heavy" ones. This is a light book but it is meant to be. It is a good one and well written. And yet in a way it is more then that. Brotherhood, and family love are not unimportant things. Nor is good cheer, and joy. Nor is the shareing of the innocent pleasure to be found in baseball.
