"Little Gourd" is a story about a search for friendship, love and acceptance in a world where not everyone looks the same. The story, inspired by Genesis 1:27, begins with our hero Little Gourd, walking across the land and approaching other gourd creatures that look similar to him. While on an innocent quest for friendship, he asks every creature he meets if they would be his friend, only to receive not-so-kind responses that point out how different--and therefore unwanted--he is. As the encounters and comments about his different appearance begin to mount, Little Gourd becomes increasingly downcast. Forlorn and discouraged--but intent on perseverance--he presses on in his search for friendship and goodness, convinced that finding another Gourd who resembles him will give him friendship that he so desperately seeks. But in the end, Little Gourd discovers something far more valuable than just similarity with another Gourd.
