I first read Little Friend in its original version in Spanish titled, Pequeño Hombre, which translates to Little Man but I think the title Little Friend works better in English. I was only 16 at the time in high school taking a Spanish class for native speakers. After I read the first story in this book I fell in love with it. It truly captures your heart. It deals with Little Friend's struggles of life such as love, happiness, self-image, loneliness, harmony, cooperation, anger, conflict, giving and so much more. Each story has its own deep message. It is truly amazing how such an author could have written such an astounding book. I now own the English version and hope to someday get my hands on the Spanish version once more. Both versions are equally good. They did a really good job at translating and keeping the original spirit of the author. I recommend this book to anyone. I don't see how you couldn't enjoy it.
Magical

I recieved this book as a gift. I think that is the only way anyone should really recieve this book. It seems too magical to have money involved. I sound really flaky saying that but this book is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. It has a bunch of really short stories about Little Friend. Some of them make sense on levels I can't even understand but often they hit you smack in the face and get you thinking about things in a completely different way.I say that the book is magical because I read it by randomly opening to stories and reading them as I need them. It just seems to be this neverending vault of stories; I rarely seem to hit the same story twice. Probably because the stories mean something different each time you read them. The friend that gave this to me says (only half-jokingly) that Rojas is her guru. The stories in Little Friend are calming, enlightening, confounding and amazing all at once.Completely recommended.
The Sacred Heart of Surreal Romance
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
Author Emilio Rojas and artist Valdes Galindo capture the longing, the sadness, and the beauty of the spiritual quest for love in this gorgeously written, fantastically illustrated collection of parables. The hero of each vignette is Little Friend, a soul of great beauty who suffers the deepest of wounds, travels time-worn roads, listens to the advice of wise men and fools in order to gain a full illumination of the possibilities of love.A sublime and memorable Valentine's Day gift for that someone of truly aesthetic tastes.
