“From that moment on, little Dieter needed to fly.”

“And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it, and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.” Revelation 9:6 This (1997) presentation is an excellent documentary directed and written by Werner Herzog, where Dieter Dengler tells his story of how he became an American naval pilot in the Vietnam War and the impact that it has had on his life. The presentation is well-designed, featuring relevant stock footage and music that effectively help present the story as it unfolds. There is a lot of interest in watching stories about how to survive in the jungle. Two statements stand out: “I don't think of myself as a hero. No, only dead people are heroes.” - Dieter Dengler “The only friend I had at the end was death.” Shades of Psalms 88:18 This is a not-to-be-missed documentary. Some of it was familiar, as I was in Vietnam 67-68. Only on the ground. That is, as long as you do not count helicopter transportation.
