***There Has To Be A 5!!!***

Mr. Johnson you are truly exceptional and simply fantastic. This novel made me laugh and cry and some passages were very painful to read. I wrote a review to another of Mr. Johnson's novels and like a "molly" I revealed the ending. Not this time though, after rewriting that review never again will that happen. I'm at a loss for words...this novel was great.

Johnny swam, although the waters were very choppy at times she made it. Now we learn of Ibo's tumultuous journey from Africa to America through the Middle Passage into the hands of slavery. Historical information is revisited with a Keith Lee Johnson flare. Outstanding!

This is an incredible story of Johnnie Wise's great, great grandmother. Don't let the fact that this is a historical novel turn you off as these characters come to life in a remarkable way. The basic premise of the story comes straight from Mr. Johnson's Introduction, "....... how one decision can change the course of a person's life and consequently, the course of an entire family unit." Now, there is a thought worth pondering. The story begins in Dahomey, Nigeria in 1791 where sixteen year old Ibo, intelligent, beautiful, and speaks many languages, is to be married to the eldest son of the king who will inherit the throne. However, Ibo has other ideas. She wants to marry Amir, another son of the king but was too far down the line to ever be king, who wanted to run away to Sierra Leone and learn to be a shipbuilder. Run away they do, only to be captured by Dutch Slave Traders. Ibo's driving force is to be reunited with Amir and she utilizes all of her many talents to try to achieve this end. Thus begins the story of Ibo. This is a story that will stay with you for days after reading it. It is a powerful novel, a great story with memorable, very well developed characters, and more than a few twists and turns to keep a person reading well into the night. If you liked the first three Little Girl books by Keith Lee Johnson, you will love this one. If you've never read a book by Mr. Johnson, try this one - it will not disappoint. Little Black Gril Lost 4 is a must read.
