Book Overview

The book ""Literary Activity Of The German Baptist Brethren In The Eighteenth Century"" by John S. Flory is a comprehensive study of the literary works produced by the German Baptist Brethren, also known as the Dunkers, during the 18th century. The German Baptist Brethren were a religious group that originated in Germany and immigrated to America in the early 18th century, settling primarily in Pennsylvania. The book explores the various genres of literature produced by the Dunkers, including hymns, poetry, sermons, and theological treatises. It also examines the social and cultural context in which these works were created, including the Dunkers' beliefs and practices, their relationship with other religious groups, and the broader intellectual and literary trends of the time.Through a detailed analysis of primary sources, including manuscripts and printed works, Flory sheds light on the Dunkers' contributions to American literature and their impact on the development of American religious and cultural identity. The book is a valuable resource for scholars and students of American literature, religious studies, and cultural history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
