Informed by an interest in cultural identity, Lisa Qualls presents a new body of work rooted in her own history. Arising from trips throughout Louisiana, A Collection of Silence is an amalgam of the artist's memory of the gardens and landscapes of her past, and her current search for a sense of silence. Through a combination of drawing, installation, painting, and photography, Qualls builds a presence in the work that reaches beyond the immediate surface. Emphasizing the complex interactions between the manmade and nature, and their simultaneous impact on human identity, this collection of objects reflects a history through the evolution of both of these worlds.?Lisa Qualls: A Collection of Silence is released on the occasion of the exhibition of the same title at French & Michigan Gallery.
