Lip pressure is a perennial topic for trumpeters, from the earliest writings and depictions of trumpeters - such as those by Johann Ernst Altenburg in the 17th century - right through to contemporary musicians. Trumpeters and instrumental teachers, as well as academics and dentists, all engage with this subject. Many trumpeters claim that playing without pressure - regardless of pitch or volume - is possible, though it depends on the necessary playing techniques.
