Alexander writes with a brash, comic, and socially sensitive touch that recalls Carol Shields. This isn't hip, trendy, urban writing. It is unflinching, vivid, and frequently domestic. Nino Ricci... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Joan Alexander is new to the book scene and she knows how to write what people want and like to read. I am betting there is a bit of her in each short story's Protagonist. She has a great ear for dialogue, too. Her writing style is a bit different from story to story because she wrote them at different times in her life (according to the book's list of magazine articles she has written) and it is great to see her style develop as you read this book. I am very much looking forward to her next book (a novel, we are told) and the one after that. Good book for the beach or on an airplane. "Joan Alexander writes a very good read!" - Toby Padgett. I agree!
Joan Alexander Writes What She & Others Really Think.

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this, her first book, before it was released. Joan Alexander writes the innermost thoughts and feelings of her characters so that I felt they were actually alive and breathing on the pages. Her stories and characters are brilliantly constructed, so much so that they actually become part of your consciousness. In the notes it states she is working on a novel now, and I for one can hardly wait until it is published! Joan Alexander is one of the freshest and most exciting authors I've ever read and I hope she keeps on writing forever. Author, Author!
