This is the Dyslexia-Friendly Edition of Lindisfarne, set in OpenDyslexic, a typeface made for readers with dyslexia, at 12 pt with wide spacing and lines set flush left, on cream paper. It's priced to cover its longer printing, and earns the author less than a copy of the standard paperback does. For the standard print, choose the paperback or the hardcover; the ebook, whole, can be read in OpenDyslexic on Kindle, Kobo and Libby.
On the eighth of June, 793, three ships will come out of the fog at Lindisfarne while the monks are singing the morning office. History will call it the raid that opened the Viking Age. It never knew about the book.
Tola is twelve, a boy raised by the monks, and he has run the island's sands since he was five. He can tell where the tide is by the color of the light on the wet sand. When a blind old brother, who gave his eyes to seeing the past, shows him a plain little book hidden at a saint's feet, and asks what he would give to keep it, Tola says, "My legs. I'll run it anywhere."
Ragna is seventeen, a seeress from the fjords. One night she looked too far, and saw an island the sea opens twice a day and a book that talks in every tongue at once, and the left side of the world went gray. Now Eyvind the Steersman wants that book. He sees every way a morning can go, he has buried two children in a hungry winter, and she is the only one aboard his ship who has seen the other side of the sea.
Two strangers with only a few words of each other's language meet once in the night on the wet sand, and decide to trust each other. Every gift here costs, and what a look takes doesn't come back. There is a priest nobody will listen to, a trader with dye-stained hands whose face no one can remember afterward, and an oath that not everyone who swore it will keep. And the sea comes in over the sands twice a day, whether you're ready or not.
Over one northern spring Tola learns what a promise to a blind old man can cost a boy who only ever wanted to run, and Ragna learns what she will spend of herself to see a thing through. Lindisfarne is about two strangers who share a few words and one night on the sand, a book a raider wants more than gold, and what you would give to carry something precious across the worst morning of your life.
Wickseers is the secret history of Earth's gifted, from the world of Aftwend. Every book stands alone.
