Less than a year into his presidency, Abe Lincoln faces numerous challenges from his generals, his cabinet, congress and his family. Then tragedy strikes his own family, sending Abe into a deep abyss full of regrets, loss, and self-doubt. The story focuses on Abe's relationship with several African American staff members who help him deal with the challenges and the tragedy as his own ideals evolve leading to his greatest decision.
