The story follows Lincoln's spirit from his death to 2017 ultimately residing at the Lincoln Memorial. He experiences the plight of the Negro race and the Civil Rights movement as it evolved over time. There is also the fictional history of the Cotton Plantation in Mississippi following the life of Haller Nutt and the Civil War. Included are various speeches pertinent to the story: Booker T. Washington commemorating the 100 year anniversary of Lincoln's birth in 1909, Lincoln's Cooper Union speech as a presidential candidate in February 1860 and John F. Kennedy's June 11th 1963 speech on Civil Rights.
