Lily was a code name for a girl, or young woman who braved being caught, tortured and executed by the Nazis during the German occupation of France in WWII. She was a member of the French underground known as the Maquis who conducted raids on German facilities. It was dangerous work given the fact that spies were summarily executed when caught. No trial necessary.
