Just an excellent book!

Just an excellent book and even a great resource for video production lighting and graphic designers

Full course on lighting, in a book...

This book is packed with information. In a clear, concise and entertaining manner Nick untangles the mystery of the art of lighting. I love the balance of the theoretical with the practical. You not only learn how to light a scene better, but you learn why you do it that way, and that, in the long run, is what is needed. I think that this book is not only a great resource for the Lightwave enthusiast, but would be a great benefit for any 3d user.

This book is amazing

I have to agree with everyone on here that gave Nicholas Boughen's book a 5 star.Even though the book is smaller than most but it is packed with so much information on lighting.First off this book starts teaching you about different lighting,in the real world, than teaches you the lights in Lightwave then you actually get to do Tutorials that teach you the use of the lights.I'd have to say that this book is a must for any amatuer or even advanced user of Lightwave to take a look at.I think alot of beginners or even advanced users will get alot of helpful information from this "must have" book.I know that It has taught me alot about "real world" lighting and the lighting used in Lightwave.

Well worth the price! Heavy in content, easy to take in

Having used Lightwave for a few years, its nice to get a book that still teaches you tons and helps make you that much better as an artist. Understanding how light works in the real world is something that is absolutely essential for lighting in 3D. The author explains how to approach lighting with that in mind. All the essential tools are covered in great detail, offering techniques and tips to get the look you want. While the book is heavily geared towards the lightwave artist, non-lightwavers would still find lots of useful information. Nicholas writes from the perspective of someone who's been in the industry for a long time. Its very well written, and a joy to read. Highly recommended!

Excellent LW lighting reference!

When I first received this book, I was surprised at the size. First off, [the price of the book seems high because] the book seems a bit thin although it weighs in at about 450 pages. The book is also narrower than most. However, this book is packed full of information on lighting, including some tutorials. Believe it or not, this is actually light Lightwave reading. The author's writing style presents complex concepts in an easy to understand fashion. The book also covers a lot of nuances in Lightwave lighting, and even includes a chapter full of tutorials and another chapter that looks at third party lighting plug-ins, including Worley's G2 and Eki's Plug-Pak (both LW must-haves). The book is hard to put down once you get started reading. ...Hopefully we will continue to see more titles like this from WordWare.
