After having used the "More Light on the Path" edition by Baker books, which also provides daily Hebrew and Greek reading selections from the Old and New Testament, I prefer this one. However, it is not without its faults. It is much more helpful to me in studying the Hebrew, as it provides more thorough parsing and definitions for the Hebrew, whereas the Baker followup to this devotional has very limited help for the Hebrew. However, the reverse is true of the Greek for both books. The Baker edition has excellent help for the Greek, but the Bitzer edition lacks any definitions or parsing for the Greek. Unfortunately for the student who wants to solidify both, neither book quite satifies. Except for more advanced students, neither book will easily be used alone--a supplementary language reference would be required. Nevertheless, they are very useful for keeping you in the routine of daily study of the Scriptures in the original languages. Bitzer's book seems to be edited better, and the only minor difficulty with it is that the definitions include both German and Latin (which could also be a benefit for those learning those languages) in addition to the English, which makes for somewhat cluttered notes. I definitely recommend the Bitzer volume, especially for those wanting to focus on improving their Hebrew.
Daily devotional with Biblical readings in Hebrew and Greek

"Bitzer was a Banker" This German businessman had great concern that clergy be proficient in the use of the original biblical languages. He himself learned Hebrew and Greek and later created this devotional with a daily reading from each of the testaments in the original Hebrew and Greek. The selections are short, usually a verse or two in length. The passages are usually familiar, so the reader has some sense of the context. The Greek passage is without notes, the Hebrew has some limited parsings and translations. The brief notes however are in German and Latin. This makes an excellent gift for the theology student who wishes to keep the languages current and useable after leaving the academic environment and getting out into the busy world of day-to-day ministry.
