Some of the police incidents are horrific, some humorous and some are just the ordinary stories that reflect the traumas that officers face each and every day as seen by the eye of I. The recollections may perturb but, as is often said about people working in stressful situations, humour is the relief from tragedy and often black humour is necessary.

In October 2016 I had occasion to write to the Borough Commander at Hounslow Police Station who had been a probationer PC at Hayes when I was there. His opening paragraph in reply was:

"Of course I remember you - you were a legend and I have fond memories of you from my time at Hayes. I remember the banter you and Kim had 'back in the day' - I think her nickname for you was ''Fossil''? Those were good and memorable days for me."
