Ever since the prince of this world crashed into the world, he has constantly made a mess of the once beautiful eternal work of God. The prince of this world as mentioned in John 12:31 fell because of his opposition to God's plan for man (Isaiah 14:12). His fall brought confusion into the Garden of Eden as sin and disobedience were introduced to Adam and Eve, and the entire generation of mankind. The once bold and lovely couple from thence began to hide away from God (Gen 3:9). They started doing things that were not pleasing in the sight of God and they paid dearly as a result of their disobedience. They were alienated from God. The sins of these first parents made everyone that is born, to also be born into sin; and anyone that commits sin is of the devil. Darkness conveys a lot of negativity. In the darkness, there are lots of dangerous items and practices. In darkness you fall, you are trapped, you are deceived, you are taken unawares, you are not sure of the next events. It may or may not result in death, but it surely ends up in disaster. A lot of evil practices going on in the dark, which cannot be brought to light. As recorded by John in verses 9 and 10 of the eleventh chapter, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walks in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walks in the night, he stumbleth because there is no light in him." Our Lord Jesus Christ emphasizes the importance of avoiding darkness at any level, be it in a small or big way. Darkness is not a friend of the children of light. When a photographer enters a dark room to produce his pictures, he guards those pictures jealously to avoid penetration of any trace of light into the room and the end result is always beautiful pictures. If on the other hand there were a trace of light in the darkroom, the bad pictures that would be produced would never be corrected. Also, when the electricity company seizes light, it always leaves everyone disappointed and dejected. Virtually everyone looks for an alternative to have a ray of light or generate one to replace the public power supply. In essence, light is more desirable compared to darkness. As the light of God gives life, that is how the darkness of the world give death. The LOVE of worldly desires puts the man in the darkness and prevents him from coming to light, which actually is the giver of every good and perfect thing.
