Paul Seftel's original paintings explore the cosmos deep within. This catalogue of paintings made over a 20 year period at the beginning of the 21st Century, reveals the artist's fascination with color, texture, space and time. Inspired by industrial elements and nature, a form and language organically emerges. The form takes many shapes but consistently explores the evolution of mark making, from the microscopic to the macro-cosmic. With a sense of play and meditation, the paintings investigate origin, and the alchemy of color and transformation. Working with texture and surface depth through an abstract material process, layers of metal pigments, plasters, minerals, and patina are incorporated. In this process a language evolves that has the qualities of memory, spirit and dream.From the underworld to the heavens, light bands together and transitions slowly, each shift creating a new space of seeing. The emergence of form and the magical transition of color gives birth to lucid visions. Metal mineral hues of blue and green explore transformative processes. Suspending, blending and colliding colors produce variations and subtleties that reveal almost imperceptible dream like atmospheric states, evoking soothing and mysterious qualities of life beneath the deep blue oceans of space and time.
