Returning home upon reading the news that two former colleagues-of-a-sort had been found in the vicinity of the Mere, dead, and having an untimely run-in with the investigating Sheriff has put his all-important search for the girl on hold, threatening the very existence of life, itself.

Thank God for the English, Cambridge-educated writer and artist, Kimberly Hunter, who, with curious tenacity, despite her refined sensibilities, came all the way to America from England in pursuit of a rather intriguing story; a story with a rather strange historical context amid what was apparently supernatural phenomena, creating a mystery in her mind that simply must be solved to her satisfaction. And so it was she who arranged a meeting with the former manager of Camp Scarletmere, only to end up in the company of a retired Master Sergeant, beginning her investigation into a series of events in which she, herself, would play an important role.
