Help for a hurting heart...

One day during a church service, our congregation read aloud a prayer by Bryan Jeffrey Leech from our Hymnal. That reading was something that stayed with me long after the service had ended, so when I returned to church another Sunday, I jotted down the author's name. I learned that he had written a collection of prayers, Lift My Spirits, Lord, and so I purchased it. Now you may be thinking, "Why would I need a book of prayers??? I can just talk to God on my own." Why, of course, that is true! Still, this collection of prayers is a wonderful complement to your personal time of prayer. These prayers are for people who are not content to "pretend" with God. Bryan Jeffrey Leech gives words to the deeper issues of the heart concerning many areas of life. Reading through them can be a great way to examine our hearts before God...giving Him the opportunity to reveal blind spots we may have. They also walk us through truth as it applies to everyday discouragements and pain, helping us to overcome struggles. In times when I just was discouraged and needed hope, I was always amazed that I could page through this little gem and find something that encouraged me and help me find words to express my heart to God. In my opinion, this would be a good book for a person struggling with depression who finds it difficult just to sit down and focus enough to talk with God.
