Bob Vosburgh spent 14 years as an Air Force fighter pilot, followed by a decade in corporate America in positions from sales to CEO. He is a keynote speaker, author, consultant and coach. His... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Overall, I thought it was a very good book. Very insightful, and the anecdotes provided a lot of support and value to the information presented. Obviously well thought out, it was arranged logically and flowed well from chapter to chapter. Although it certainly draws heavily on Bob Vosburgh's air force background, I did not find any limitation or disadvantage to being merely "a civilian". I very quickly could see how he's combined both the military and corporate backgrounds in developing his own style, taking from the best and avoiding the worst, and how he shares that with the reader. As I read it, I could easily relate my own past experiences, and supervisors, to both the good and bad examples of leadership style he discusses. It also confirmed in me some leadership traits which I'm quite proud of, and provided reflection on ones I know I still need to work on. A good book on leadership should, in my opinion, be thought-provoking and insightful, leading me down the path of critically and objectively reviewing how I am as a manager, and how I want to be as a manager. This book did exactly that!

This book is a great mix of motivation and leadership techniques. The author has a real knack for storytelling, and the book is even more readable because he was a top-gun fighter pilot. To keep things fresh, he peppers the book with direct quotes from a variety of people.Being a marketing consultant, I especially liked his chapter on Clarity.Instead of reading this front to finish, I'd read one chapter, then go exploring into another topic in the book. And being a pilot myself, I just sat and stared at the front cover alot!
