Surprising and unpredictable

Unlike many books covering the devasting effects of Acts of God, this one portrays and more realistic, human and frail reaction to crisis. And what makes this book a pleasure a read to the end is that the non-optimal reactions are not self-correcting. Just as in real life, people don't always rebound to the same or to a better place. Sometimes they rebound to a different place: sometimes better, sometimes not. This book makes you think about your own reactions to difficulties.

Review of Lifestorm

Even if you've never experienced a tragedy as massive and devastating as this one, you'll relate to and be emphathetic with the characters in the book. In your own life you've experienced elements of what you read here and sometimes you feel you're a part of the events in the book.Unlike many other books, the outcomes are not predictable so don't put it down without reading it to the end. You'll be surprised by how things finally resolve themselves!Easy to read, flows well, you'll like it.

A work of fiction based on facts

The book Lifestorm was written as a tribute to Ms. Kalm's mother, who lost her home and all her "memories" in the horrible firestorm which swept the Oakland hills 0n 1991. Using the real life tragedy which she experienced, she has written a novel to share with people what such an experience does to people and especially how it impacts relationships. The story develops quickly and one has a chance to get inside the lead characters. As one reads this story, one begins to feel what it must have been like for the people who lived there and who lost so much as a result. The book is easy to read but creates a story which causes people to pause and think as to how they would behave if they were thrust into such a situation. This is a well written book which people will enjoy reading even though they will be disappointed if they are looking for a happy ending. The ending, in fact, is in my opinion, a very excellent piece of writing in that it does not fall into the trap of trying to wrap up every loose end to make for a good story.THIS BOOK IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
