In an age of constant and far-reaching change, lifelong learning is seen as a social imperative for young people in education and as a labour market challenge for policymakers. The author seeks to navigate the maze of educational reforms to identify what schools need in order to foster a successful start to a lifelong passion for learning and physical activity. Learning is viewed here from a systemic-constructivist perspective and is understood as a lifelong, individual educational process. Active, emotionally engaging interaction with the environment leads to experience, behavioural change and, consequently, the expansion of knowledge. This personal development can optimally support psychomotor development in children and young people. Drawing on this insight, the book explores psychomotor learning areas, perspectives, attitudes and principles that should be incorporated as quickly as possible into everyday school life as a guide for teaching practice. The educational concept of a training college for early years education, featuring an integrated, psychomotor-based movement programme, demonstrates how this can be achieved in practice.
