A true story based on my experience of living with a sociopath and my efforts to find redemption and reconciliation. It is a sad, but important story. As you read my narratives, it will become very obvious, that the various symptoms describing antisocial behavior are those displayed by my mother. It is my hope that those who find themselves in the same or similar situations, will find something in this story that may help them to take control of their own life. However, this book may not be for everyone. Some of the events I describe may not be suitable for children under the age of 12- years old. According to the Mayo Clinic, antisocial personality disorder, sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or with callous indifference. They show no guilt or remorse for their behavior. People with this disorder typically can't fulfill responsibilities related to family, work, or school. The most challenging part of dealing with an individual with an antisocial personality is they never see themselves as the problem. They always feel they're right and everyone else is wrong, no matter the situation. They tend to always play the victim. If you are not careful, you can easily become their prey of manipulation and guilt. As a child born of an individual who suffers from an antisocial personality behavior, it may seem practically impossible to escape this dysfunctional lifestyle. This book, describes how my brother and I, overcame some very hurtful and heartbreaking moments in our life. How we found redemption from our chaotic and abusive childhood and through the ability to forgive, we found peace within ourselves.
