The most published writer I know is a professor named Harry Crews; I met him back in the seventies when I took a creative writing class at the University of Florida. He taught that writing was a craft, remarkably similar to carpentry, and like any other craft, the one thing you must do in order to master it, is to do it and do it time and again. I took that class because I wanted to be a writer and even though I have not written very much, I still want to be a writer. I have decided that the time is now, so I have devised a simple plan. I'll get up every day and before I go to work, I'll write. I'll write just to do it and to practice, and to have something to write about, I'll write about my memories. I figure I have enough memories to keep me writing until I get good at it. If ever, I run out of memories, I plan to just make them up. The author
