TheStreetwise Life Skills (SWLS) project was set up in 2018 in response to the rising levels of Gang-related crime now sweeping across our urban environment. Its primary aim is to be able to reach out to our youths from deprived areas of the UK, who are not yet caught up in gang culture, and to be able to offer them the types of skills that they wouldn't normally be taught academically. Skills that are crucial to their survival and overall well-being can be passed on from generation to generation. Being Streetwise means two things: (a) having an awareness of the traps and pitfalls that lurk on and around your street or Housing estate and (b) learning how to be able to avoid them. To be Street-smart means possessing the skills and attitudes necessary to survive in a difficult or dangerous situation or environment. Written and compiled by an author whom himself was raised on a deprived Council housing estate, this booklet aims to pass on invaluable information to today's 'youngens', drawn from the author's many years of personal urban experience and combined with countless hours of modern-day case studies.
