I watched the U.S. version before this 16-episode British version (2006–2007); there is a good chance that this might jade my review.
There are other versions from other countries and even a sequel, “Ashes to Ashes” (24 episodes, 2008-2010).
I bought the German “Life on Mars - Die komplette Serie (Uncut-Gesamtbox Season 1 & 2 - Langfassung) (8 DVDs)” which has English language and a lot of extras. 15 hours and 38 minutes.
Sam Tyler (John Simm), a policeman in service with the Greater Manchester Police (GMP), is hit by a car in 2006; he wakes up in 1973. We did not know the reason why. However, he finds himself working for a predecessor of the same station and location as he was in 2006.
In each episode, he is reminded that he is probably in a coma, then reminded that he is really in 1973. Will he ever get home?
They only ran two seasons and decided to get out while the series was still on top.
Maybe because this critter is foreign to me, it took time to adjust to the British speech pattern, and I occasionally used a dictionary.
I suggest, after watching this, to watch the U.S. version with many episodes almost identical yet have a different ending.
Then double back for the sequel “Ashes to Ashes.” (24 episodes, 2008-2010).
Sorry, that is all there is, so you will have to binge again to catch the nuances.
