The Memoir Life Beyond Today tells the story of a boy who overcomes homelessness and economic instability to graduate with two degrees and empower others who experience homelessness. At 3 Dyllin witnessed his mother passing and it only got rough from there. Without being able to speak Dyllin had to navigate a world that was ever changing. Life Beyond Today follows Dyllin as he traverses a life of his father finding stable sobriety, Dyllin's own battle with health and learning disabilities, and then eventually experiencing homeless. These experiences challenged the bond of a father and son. At 23 after graduating Dyllin had a burning desire to empower those that have had to face homelessness, housing instability and similar adversities.This story relates to both young and old audiences that intentionally includes the youth audience and those that provide for them. The interventions used in engaging with people experiencing homelessness is changing by the day; in order for policies to change nationally the voice of former homeless youth is critical and must be consistently updated with experiences relevant to today's society. The audience of teachers, students and professors across the country is endless as the demand to understand is high but the availability of an understandable presentation of these experiences is low. Statistics show an education system overwhelmed by youth in poverty and a higher education system that homeless youth fall in and out of while trying to build a sustainable future. The names of the characters, entities and organizations involved have been changed as to protect their privacy. This book is meant to tell the story story of how someone can overcome homelessness and learn to believe in a life beyond today.
