Incredible And Fascinating

This is one of my all time favorite books. I’ve read it at least 6 times. The characters are complex and provocative, the story is compelling and entrancing. The sequel is wonderful too but this one - it’s what every book should be.

Not my type of book

If you are looking for a book with a plot, character development and a joy to read, this is NOT it. This book is very hard to follow with all the jumping from one timeframe to another, with and characters dying and then living again. No real story and a lot of drivel. After reading a quarter of the book I had no inclination to read any more. Unfortunately I had also purchased the sequel, God in Ruins based on some good reviews which continues on with the same style. Waste of money.

A great story. Could not put it down.

Kate Atkinson explores second chances and living one’s life in different ways with a sort of time travel structure. But it’s not sci fi. Very lovely tale. I reccomend A God In Ruins, her ‘companion piece’ to this book.
