Criticism of this book are true but it is still a good history of Cape Coral. If you are interested in Cape Coral it is a good read and the pictures alone are worth the price of admission.

I found the book very interesting, as I first came to Cape Coral over Easter Vacation in 1963.My Grandmother Shirley G. King and step Grandfather Dillard J. King are listen as some of the original pioneers of Cape Coral. They were the second Realtors, owned the building that housed the Coral Star Pharmacy and King Realty.( It's pictured in the book with the skeletal shell of the GAC building on Cape Coral Parkway and Del Prado, circa. 1963 )I still remember the heavy equiptment and canals being dug around what became the Yacht Basin. I remember going to the Rose Gardens in 1967 and seeing the Waltzing Waters and seals and dolphin shows. It was about a fifty mile drive to get to Bonita Beach back then. My memories are too many too name but I liked this book.
A great tribute

Land developers, Real Estate people and anyone looking for a story of how and impossible dream can come true will love this book. you've heard all the "I've got some swampland to sell you in Florida" jokes...now read the story of how it actually became a city that became Cape Coral, FL despite itself. Now one of the largest cities in Florida more than 1,000 people on average are still moving to Cape Coral each month as of 2002. You have to read it to believe this first hand account.
